Organizers with Hilltop Action Coalition (HAC) sent out the following press announcement today seeking help from the community to help them continue their important work. HAC has enlisted the aid of fundrazr.com for a fundraising drive, which ends on Dec. 31.
After 20 years of serving the Hilltop, the Hilltop Action Coalition (HAC) needs your support to continue its work!
Over the past 20 years, the Hilltop Action Coalition has served Tacoma’s Hilltop community through responding to needs in our community, working toward sustainability though a community resilience project, hosting outreach events, providing educational meetings, supporting and organizing block watch groups and advocating for the community. This has been made possible by generous support from individuals like you/organizations like yours.
Hilltop Action Coalition is a volunteer run organization. We are in need of funds to continue to support our mission, our community and our neighborhood.
Your tax-deductible donation will help us continue to provide quality services and increase outreach efforts. In supporting the Hilltop Action Coalition, you join others in being a part of this important legacy of stewardship.

The following are vital services we hope you will consider supporting:
Community Meetings
These free interactive educational meetings are open to all. To better serve those who attend, staff from Tacoma Police Department, the Department of Corrections, Tacoma Housing Authority, Tacoma’s Community Based Services and Hilltop Action Coalition Board members are present to address questions and concerns brought up by citizens at these meetings.
Response to Community Issues
When community members have a concern, HAC is at the ready to mobilize, organize and facilitate solutions. Recent issues that HAC has stepped up to include (but are not limited to) increasing reports of violent crime, human trafficking, drug dealing, prostitution and vandalism.
Community Resilience Project
HAC, with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department's Medical Reserve Corps, work to survey and identify resources and needs to help the Hilltop community be prepared and self-sufficient in case of a natural disaster.
National Night Out
A night when neighbors come together to share picnics, BBQs, potlucks, ice cream socials, games, music and other community events to celebrate their safe community, create bonds, build partnerships and embrace the sense of true community. In 2013, the Hilltop neighborhood hosted more NNO events than any other neighborhood in the city of Tacoma.
Community Clean-Up
Working in conjunction with the City of Tacoma, HAC sponsors an annual community clean-up where “the dump comes to you.” In 2013, 223 community members were able to bring trash, junk and other unwanted items to a central location (assistance and vehicles were provided when needed/possible). 21.82 tons of junk and garbage were hauled away.
Trunk or Treat
Trunk or treat is a safe, family friendly, community building alternative to trick-or-treating door to door, which includes community members with their car or truck “trunks” decorated from which to give out candy, hot spiced cider or cocoa, live entertainment and lots of fun.
Educational Seminars
These informative seminars engage community leaders in the Hilltop and Greater Tacoma areas to encourage neighborhood improvement through stewardship and community mobilization. These free seminars will focus on three proactive crime prevention topics: community clean-ups, blight reduction and basic CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles.
Ongoing Support of Organized Block Watch Groups
Hilltop Action Coalition provides groups with updated materials and supports them in their outreach efforts. Groups organize clean-ups, holiday events, work crews and other events to engage their neighborhoods and stay connected.
Organize New Block Watch Groups
Hilltop Action Coalition, at one time, had 80 active block groups. As we have moved past our troubled history in the 1980's it has been easy to become complacent. We are working to reinvigorate these groups not only for crime prevention but also for community support and sustainability.
Part Time Staff Person
Hilltop Action Coalition is a volunteer run organization. We are a lean, grassroots organization in need of stable funding for a part time staff person to coordinate all of these activities.
More about us: Hilltop Action Coalition is a community based coalition working to mobilize and empower diverse individuals, families, businesses, and other public and community organizations to build a safe, clean, healthy, dynamic, united community.
Originally organized to respond to gangs, drugs, and crime on the Hilltop, the Coalition now also works on other issues that affect neighborhood stability, such as housing, health and a clean environment.
Hilltop Action Coalition is a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization, therefore, donations made to our organization are tax-deductible. For reference, our EIN is 20-8160894.
