A known homeless man just happened to be walking by a boarded up house along the 5400 block of South Warner on Dec. 16, when he decided to investigate possibly buying the house. Lacking a real estate agent at the time, he kicked the door in and had a look around. He was probably measuring for carpets. A neighbor called police thinking he might not be a potential buyer but, in fact, a burglar. Police responded to the call to find the house empty but the door kicked in and a glass window smashed. During the investigation, police heard shattering glass from a nearby house. An officer found a shattered window and heard noises inside the house right as the potential new homeowner was exiting from the window. He was arrested. He might want to make an appointment first.
Panhandling must be a lucrative gig, that or one man just isn’t very good at it. Police arrested a man Dec. 16 at the corner of East 27th and Portland Avenue after he was spotted asking for money from passing cars. The man said he was unaware that Tacoma had a no-panhandling law. A records check, however, found that he had two warrants for panhandling already to his credit. The officer suggested he find an attorney.
